The formula
The hourly rate is your yearly pay divided by the total hours you work in a year. Total hours is your weekly hours times the number of paid weeks.
A real example
If you earn 60,000 dollars a year, work 40 hours a week, and are paid for all 52 weeks, that is 2,080 hours, which comes to about 28.85 dollars an hour. If you take two unpaid weeks off, drop the paid weeks to 50 and the effective hourly rate rises, because the same pay covers fewer hours.

Use 52 if you are paid for your time off. If you have unpaid leave, subtract those weeks so the hourly figure reflects the hours you actually work.
