How to use this tool
- Enter your sex, age, height, and weight.
- Pick how active you are.
- Click Calculate to see your BMR and your estimated daily calorie need.
The formula
This uses the Mifflin St Jeor equation, the modern standard for estimating resting calories. Your daily need multiplies BMR by an activity factor.
BMR = 10 x kg + 6.25 x cm - 5 x age + s
(s is +5 for male, -161 for female)
daily calories = BMR x activity factor
A real example
Knowing your daily calorie need is the starting point for any goal. To lose weight, eat somewhat below it; to gain, eat above. The number here gives you that baseline to plan around.
Common questions
What is the difference between BMR and daily calories?
BMR is what you burn at complete rest. Daily calories add the energy used by movement and exercise, which is why it is higher.
