This checker runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored.
How to use this tool
Type or paste your app title into the first field. As you type, the tool counts every character live and compares the total against each store's limit. The Apple App Store and Google Play both cap the title at 30 characters, so the same title is checked against both. If you also use a Google Play short description, paste it into the second field to check it against the 80 character limit. Each card shows how many characters you have used, how many remain, and a clear pass or fail so you know at a glance whether the listing will be accepted.
How app store optimization title length works
pass = characters_used <= limit
Apple App Store title limit = 30 characters
Google Play title limit = 30 characters
Google Play short description limit = 80 characters
App store optimization rewards titles that are short, readable, and within the platform limits. Both stores count every visible character, including spaces and punctuation, toward the limit. A title that goes over the limit is rejected or silently truncated, which can cut off your most important keyword. Counting characters before you submit keeps your title and short description safely inside the iOS and Google Play caps and protects your ASO character count from going to waste.
A real example
Say your draft title is "PixelPlan: Daily Habit Tracker". Counting the letters, spaces, colon, and the rest gives 30 characters exactly, so it passes with 0 characters remaining on both the App Store and Google Play. If you expand it to "PixelPlan: Daily Habit and Goal Tracker" that is 42 characters, which fails by 12 over the 30 character limit. Trimming it back to "PixelPlan: Habit and Goal Tracker" brings it to 33 characters, still 3 over, so you would shorten it again until the counter shows a pass.
Common questions
What is the title character limit on the App Store and Google Play?
Both the Apple App Store and Google Play limit the app title to 30 characters. Google Play also gives you a separate short description field with an 80 character limit, which this tool checks too.
Do spaces and punctuation count toward the limit?
Yes. Both stores count every visible character, including spaces, colons, dashes, and emoji, toward the limit. This tool counts them the same way so your characters limit validation matches what the store sees.
Why should I keep my ASO title under the limit?
A title over the limit gets rejected at submission or truncated in search results, which can hide your most important keyword. Staying within the iOS and Google Play title limits keeps the full title visible and improves your ASO character count usage.
Is my title sent to any server?
No. The entire ASO character count check happens in your browser using plain JavaScript. Nothing you type is uploaded, logged, or saved anywhere.
Does this tool guarantee my listing will be approved?
This is an educational estimate of length only. It does not check store policy, trademark rules, or keyword quality, so use it as a length guide and review each store's full guidelines before you publish.
