How to use this tool
- Pick a phase tab if you want to start somewhere other than a work interval. The default is a 25 minute work block.
- Press Start to begin the countdown. Press it again to pause, and Reset to clear the current phase back to its full time.
- When a work interval finishes, the timer counts a completed cycle and moves on to a break. After the chosen number of work intervals, it switches to a longer break.
- Optionally turn on the sound alert, or click Enable desktop notifications so your browser can tell you when each phase ends.
- Change the work, short break, and long break minutes at any time to fit your own focus and productivity rhythm.
How the Pomodoro method works
The Pomodoro Technique breaks work into short, timed sprints separated by deliberate rest. A classic cycle is a 25 minute work interval followed by a 5 minute break timer. After a set number of intervals, usually four, you take a longer break of around 15 minutes. The short sprints make starting easy, and the breaks keep your attention fresh so the focus productivity clock keeps you moving without burning out.
A real example
Say you have three hours to study. Set the timer to the standard 25 minute work interval, a 5 minute break timer, and a 15 minute long break after every four intervals. You complete four work intervals (100 minutes of focus) with three short 5 minute breaks in between (15 minutes), then a 15 minute long break. That single round is 130 minutes. Start a second round and after two more work intervals you have spent roughly three hours and finished six focused 25 minute blocks, which the cycle counter shows as 6.
Common questions
Why is a Pomodoro 25 minutes long?
Twenty five minutes is long enough to make real progress but short enough that it feels easy to begin, which is the whole point of the method. This tool lets you change the work minutes if a different length suits you better.
Will the timer keep running if I switch browser tabs?
Yes. The countdown is driven in the background, so it continues while you work in another tab. If your browser throttles inactive tabs heavily the display may catch up when you return, but the elapsed time stays correct.
Do I need to install anything or sign in?
No. This is a free online Pomodoro timer that works the moment the page loads. There is no account, no install, and no data leaves your device.
Why are my desktop notifications not showing?
Click Enable desktop notifications and accept the browser prompt. If you previously blocked notifications for this site you will need to allow them again in your browser settings. The sound alert works on its own without notifications.
Can I change how many work intervals come before a long break?
Yes. Use the long break setting to choose a long break after every two, three, four, or five work intervals so the focus productivity clock matches how you like to pace deep work.
