Unit Price Comparison Calculator

Compare the price per unit of two or more products to spot the better value before you buy.

This calculator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored.

How to use this tool

Pick the unit you want to compare by, such as ounces for a dry good or fluid ounces for a drink. Then for each product, type its shelf price and the size on the package in that unit. A 24 oz jar of sauce priced at $4.49 means a price of 4.49 and a size of 24. Use the "Add another product" button to line up as many options as you like, then press Compare value. This unit price grocery calculator works out the cost per ounce or per item for each product, sorts them, and highlights the cheapest one so the better value is obvious at a glance.

How the price per unit is calculated

Price per unit = total price ÷ size in your chosen unit
Better value = the product with the lowest price per unit

Stores often print a unit price on the shelf tag, but they do not always use the same unit for similar items, which makes a quick price per unit compare hard. By forcing every product into the same unit here, the math is fair. A lower cost per ounce, per liter, or per count is the cheaper option for the same amount of product. Buying in bulk usually lowers the unit price, but not always, so this tool helps you confirm whether the bigger pack is truly the better value in bulk or just a bigger total.

A real example

Imagine two boxes of laundry detergent. Box A is 50 oz for $11.99, so its price per unit is 11.99 ÷ 50 = $0.2398 per oz. Box B is the bulk size at 150 oz for $32.49, so its price per unit is 32.49 ÷ 150 = $0.2166 per oz. Even though Box B costs more at the register, it is about 2.3 cents cheaper per ounce, so the larger box is the better value bulk buy by roughly ten percent per ounce.

Common questions

What is a unit price?

A unit price is how much one standard measure of a product costs, such as the cost per ounce, per liter, or per item. It is the total price divided by the size in that unit, and it lets you compare packages of different sizes on equal terms.

How do I compare cost per ounce between brands?

Make sure both prices use the same unit, enter each brand as its own product with its price and ounce size, and press Compare value. The tool shows the cost per ounce for each one and marks the lowest as the better value.

Is bulk always cheaper per unit?

Not always. Bigger packs usually have a lower price per unit, but sales, coupons, and club pricing can flip that. Running a quick price per unit compare here tells you whether the bulk size really wins before you commit to the larger purchase.

Can I compare items sold by count instead of weight?

Yes. Choose the count option in the unit list and enter how many items are in each pack as the size. The calculator then shows the price per item so you can compare packs of paper towels, batteries, or snacks fairly.

Are the results exact?

The math is exact for the numbers you enter, but it is meant for quick shopping estimates and educational use, not professional financial advice. Always check the package size and current shelf price, since taxes, deposits, and rounding can shift the real cost.
