How to use this tool
- For each workday, type the start time and end time using the 24-hour clock, for example 09:00 and 17:30.
- Enter any unpaid break in minutes, such as 30 for a half-hour lunch.
- If a shift runs past midnight, the calculator handles it by treating the end time as the next day.
- Add an hourly pay rate if you want an estimated gross paycheck. Leave it blank to see hours only.

How the work hours and overtime are calculated
For each day the tool finds the minutes between your start and end time, subtracts the unpaid break, and converts the result to decimal hours. The seven daily totals are added into a weekly total. Anything up to 40 hours counts as regular time, and the rest is flagged as overtime.
The 40-hour line follows the common United States full-time threshold for weekly overtime. Your employer, state, or contract may use different rules, so confirm the numbers against your own pay policy.
A real example
Say you work 8:00 to 16:30 Monday through Friday with a 30 minute unpaid lunch each day. Each day is 8 hours and 30 minutes of clock time minus 30 minutes of break, which is 8.00 hours. Across five days that is 40.00 total hours, so regular hours are 40.00 and overtime is 0.00. If you also worked a 4-hour Saturday shift, the weekly total becomes 44.00 hours: 40.00 regular and 4.00 overtime. At a $20 rate the gross pay would be 40 x 20 plus 4 x 30, which is $920.00.
Common questions
How does the punch clock handle an overnight shift?
If the end time is earlier than the start time, the tool assumes the shift crossed midnight and adds 24 hours to the end. A 22:00 start with a 06:00 end correctly reads as 8 hours.
How is overtime decided?
This calculator uses the standard weekly rule, where every hour beyond 40 in the week is overtime. It does not apply daily overtime rules used in some states, so check your local labor laws if those apply to you.
What time format should I use?
Use the time pickers, which run on a 24-hour basis internally. Enter breaks as whole minutes. Empty days are simply counted as zero hours.
Is the pay figure my real paycheck?
No. It is a gross estimate with overtime at one and a half times the base rate. It does not include taxes, tips, bonuses, or deductions, so treat it as a rough guide only.
Does the tool store my timesheet?
No. All of the math happens in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere. Closing or refreshing the page clears your entries.
